My name is Marie Glodt. I personally have been involved with volunteer work off and on for years. For the past 3 years I have been helping a non-profit organization that visits nursing homes and long term care facilities here on the island of Maui. We (the director and an assortment of animals and volunteers) visit the facilities on a rotating monthly basis and share our friendship and happiness with the residents and staff. You will be surprised at how gratifying this is for everyone involved.
Travel to Maui and Haku Baldwin Center's Pet Therapy program are teaming up to encourage travelers to take a "volunteer vacation," a growing trend of individuals seeking to give back to local tourism communities during their time away from work and home. Take time out of your hectic life to vacation with a purpose - either by scheduling a full volunteer vacation, or by simply taking a day or two out of an already planned leisure vacation while you are visiting Maui, Hawaii.
Plus a portion of the costs might be tax deductible. Individual circumstances vary so be sure to have your accountant advise you.
